The Nerd Gatekeeping Quiz

@i_sayeth on Tumblr seems to think that female nerds don't exist, and that we only play video games because they're cool RIGHT NOW and will leave nerddom in droves once the Next Big Trend hits.
So, I've compiled this quiz. @i_sayeth has 15 minutes from the time I tweet this post to him to finish, and Google is not allowed. And yes, I know all of the correct answers to this.
1. Name 3 men that Deadpool has come-on to in the comic books, and 3 women that he has been romantically involved with.
2. According to the original DBZ manga, how many Saiyans survived the destruction of Planet Vegeta?
3. Where does Superman get his powers?
4. Which of the following are canon?
a. Wonder Woman has had several Amazon lovers.
b. Aino Minako is the Princess of the Moon Kingdom.
c. Deadpool once pretended to rub one out against Spiderman in order to cut through the ropes binding them and escape without the bad guy noticing.
d. Superman has only ever been paired with Lois Lane.
e. Cyborg 008 escaped from slave traffickers, only to end up being used in the Zero-Zero Cyborg Project.
f. Kikaider has a rival/enemy named Hakaider.
g. Black Jack's ward, Pinoko, was once the embedded twin of an 18-year-old woman.
h. Mario has always saved ONE princess: Peach Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom.
i. You obtain the Triforce in every Zelda game for a TV console.
5. In the original Legend of Zelda, one of the sections of the Triforce was broken into 8 pieces for Link to find. How many of these main sections were there? Again, this is the FIRST game.
6. How many chaos emeralds are in the original Sonic the Hedgehog, and when was the Super Sonic transformation introduced?
7. What is the glitch Pokemon, and where could you find it? What did it evolve into if you gave it a Rare Candy?
8. In Super Mario Odyssey, Pauline is the mayor of New Donk City. When and in what game did Pauline originally appear?
9. Which Overwatch character is canonically a lesbian?
10. One popular video game features a character who describes himself as "a black Scottish cyclops!" What game and character?
11. Which edition of Dungeons & Dragons has detailed rules about grappling?
12. Khajit has wares if you have coin. Who or what is Khajit?
13. Mother 2 is the original Japanese name of which SNES game?
14. What is the difference between the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive and SNES versions of Mortal Kombat, as released in the United States?
15. Name one video game and one anime series that feature important characters named "Alucard."
16. In Bram Stoker's Dracula, what happened to vampires in sunlight?
17. What was the name of the song that Splatoon character Pearl could never get radio stations to play?
18. Which of the following scandalous things actually appeared in the earliest known geek fanzine?
a. The Contra Code (later known as the Konami Code).
b. Detailed diagrams of the Vulcan reproductive system.
c. Mario/Peach pornography.
d. How to get infinite money in the DOS game Taipei.
e. The "Mei is dead" fan theory about My Neighbor Totoro.
------------------------
This should prove the following:
1. I have, in fact, been into this shit for a VERY LONG TIME.
2. Nobody likes being quizzed to prove they're a "real" fan.
3. Gatekeeping is bullshit.
Not that I'm surprised. Male nerds tend to merely consume; female nerds, to create. So we pretty much HAVE to know more about the nerdy stuff we consume, just so we can get shit right in our fanart and fanfiction.

Date: 2018-09-19 12:40 am (UTC)1. Deadpool has come on to Spiderman (in the comics, where he's over 18), Thor (in the comics), Wolverine (in the comics), and Colossus (in the movies).
He's been romantically involved with Vanessa, Death (a woman in Marvel), and Shikla (whom he recently divorced).
2. Four: Kakarrot/Goku, Raditz, Vegeta, and Nappa. Cabba, Caulifla, and Kale don't count because they live in another universe. Turles, Tarble, and all other Saiyan survivors are from the movies, and thus aren't canon (until the new Broly movie comes out in December).
3. From our yellow sun, which apparently has different effects on Kryptonians.
4. a, c, e, f, and g are canon. The others are not: Tsukino Usagi is the moon princess; Superman has dated Wonder Woman and Lana Lang in the comics; Mario has also saved Daisy and Roselia (and Pauline, in Donkey Kong, but she's not a princess); Majora's Mask doesn't contain the Triforce, and you can't get it in OoT without taking advantage of glitches in the original N64 version of the game.
5. Two. The familiar 3-section Triforce, with triangles for Power, Wisdom, and Courage, came later.
6. The original Sonic the Hedgehog had only 6 Chaos Emeralds. Super Sonic, and the seventh emerald, were both added in the 2nd game.
7. Missingno appears only in the original Red/Blue/Yellow/Green versions, and their 3DS ports (which preserve the original code, glitches and all). You find it by using Surf on the eastern shore of the Seafoam Islands. If you use a Rare Candy on it, it evolves into a Kangaskhan that knows Sky Attack (this was the only way to get a Kangaskan with that move, as it couldn't learn it by leveling up or using a TM.)
8. Pauline was the lovely lady you rescued in the original Donkey Kong arcade game in 1982.
9. Tracer is the only character from the original release of Overwatch to be canonically a lesbian. Other characters are often shipped with a variety of people, and assigned a variety of sexual orientations, but AFAIK, only Tracer's love of ladies is actually canon.
10. Demoman from Team Fortress 2.
11. Grappling rules were the bane of 3.5, and the first edition of Pathfinder was one of many attempts to fix that horrible grappling system.
12. The Khajit are a race of cat-people from the Elder Scrolls series. They do not have names, nor do they use first-person pronouns, so they only refer to themselves as "Khajit."
13. Earthbound. Mother 3 was released in the US as Earthbound 2. The original Mother has never been released in the US.
14. The SNES version of Mortal Kombat edited out the pixellated blood, replacing it with white "sweat." For elementary-aged kids at the time, this meant the Genesis version with the blood still in it was superior, at least for grossing out your mom.
15. Castlevania (and its associated anime) and Hellsing were the ones I had in mind when I wrote this, but there are probably more, because "Dracula" is one of those words that's still perfectly pronounceable in most Western languages when you spell it backwards.
16. They were unable to use any of their powers, and basically appeared to be normal (if pale and eccentric) humans. However, they did need to rest frequently in a coffin buried in the soil of their homeland, which made it particularly irksome for Dracula to travel abroad.
17. In the English version, it's called "#$@%* Dudes Be #$@%* Sleepin." You find out about it when Marina and Pearl post on the chatroom in the Octo Expansion story.
(I just checked the wiki, and here it is in other languages:
Japanese: ※$%@れたヤツは ※$%@して寝ろ
Dutch: *$%@ gasten moeten *$%@ niet zo *$%@
French: Bougez-vous le *$%@ bande de *$%@
German: *$%@-Typen *$%@ noch mal nur am Pennen
Italian: Tutti a nanna, brutti *$%@!
Russian: ***! В моей команде один ******!!!
Spanish (Latinoamerica): Que no me *$%@ con sus *$%@
Spanish (Castellano): ¡Que os *$%@, panda de *$%@!
Beautiful.)
18. B. The earliest modern fanzine was a Star Trek zine, produced in the late 1960s. (Sadly, it looks like the Vulcan genitals were actually from a 1970s fanzine.) NONE of the media listed in the other choices had even come out yet!
